Venue: Parul University, Vadodara

As a Regional Coordinator of the Mozilla Community in the Gujarat region, I was invited to Mentor the projects at HexaHive Hackathon. I also got the opportunity to be a part of the jury which had the HOD of Parul University’s HOD of the CSE Department. It was amazing to share knowledge with professors who are very very experienced. He even told us that he was one of the first Microsoft Student Ambassadors in Gujarat region, which led me to an amazing realization that the tech communities amongst students are at an all time high.

More about HexaHive though:

HexaHive is an annual hackathon organised by Uniphyd. a community of student developers at Parul University. We have a single goal as a community, to do great things for our careers and to do these things together or unified. A lot of people think Hackathons are hard and are only for experienced programmers, we want to change that. We want to get people excited about innovating and draw a diverse group of new hackers.

Right from the start, my trip didn’t start great but it got better since I got there. I got to see a lot of projects from the students who were amazingly skilled at UI/UX but in the end the project which won the ultimate prize was of an AR project, built on Unity. My heart blew up with happiness since I’d given an A-Frame talk the earlier day which was fun!

“Will the Real Slim Shady please stand up?”

There were a staggering 87 participants in the hackathon, which is quite a lot than what I had imagined since we only see a number this big when hardware is involved. It was amazing to be there, I love the fact that colleges and Universities in Gujarat are now more open about hosting events on innovation and are not hell bent anymore on syllabus and attendance.

P.S. A participant challenged me for a FIFA 19 match since one of his friends recognized me from my Gaming Startup days, I thrashed him 5–1. I’m sorry.
